Seventh-Fifth Anniversary Celebration - April 17, 1999

About the SCC, Fellowship

Celebrants on April 17, 1999

In what Rob Seulowitz has now dubbed "the hearth of the church" (Dyckman Hall), over one hundred persons gathered on Saturday, evening, April 17, 1999 to celebrate the seventy-fifth anniverary of our church's charter. (On Sunday, October 24, 1999, Phil Washburn led the children in another celebration of this special year.)

Moderator Bob Everett recognized those present who had been members of the church fifty or more years: Persis J. Cline, Betty Taubert, Diane Swingle, George Calvert, Julia Axtell, Bob Lilly, and John Cline. He honored Bob and June Lumby, now of Towson, MD, who had traveled the farthest to attend. And he introduced Mary Louise Boynton Dahlstrom who was raised in this church as the daughter of Ned Boynton who served as senior pastor from 1930 to 1951.

Bob turned over the mike to Don Daily who not only orchestrated the speakers, but led the sing-alongs and sang in the "Four for Fun Quartet". Senior Minister Phil Washburn and Associate Minister Elizabeth Junod jousted in an "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" duet, which resulted in Phil yielding to Elizabeth to give the invocation. "Phil's" benediction was sung by the Quartet of Phil, Don, Bob Shearer, and David Culver.

Speakers recalling their years in the Scarsdale Congregational Church were Diane Carret Swingle, Anne Swingle Borg, Julia Gibson Axtell, June Lumby, George Calvert, Nan Berke, Rob Seulowitz, Don Daily, and Roy Swingle.

Glen Nygreen, chair of the Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Committee, led the final sing-along, "This Was a Real Nice Clambake", acknowledging the work of the Celebration Committee: Frances Galloway, Ardis Hunt, Lois Lennon, Bob Lilly, Tinka Marsh, Bonnie Mitchell, Glen Nygreen, Lois Seulowitz, Margaret Stathis, Betty Taubert, JohnWerner, and Ruby Woosnam.

Caterers for the event were Carey Gross Ltd. Leftover food was donated to the Grace Church Community Center Soup Kitchen in White Plains - in the hope that others might help celebrate the theme of our seventy-fifth annivesary year: Feeding Body and Spirit. Let's Do It!
