Scarsdale Congregational ChurchMake a House a Home - June 15, 2002 Open HouseOur Community |
| It happened! The house at 2 Drake Road was ready again to be a home and opened its doors to
celebrate on Saturday, June 15, 2002.
Tinka Marsh has been an active supporter of this project and, with Linda Fink, hosted volunteers for lunch before the 1 PM Open House. Here Tinka beams with her new friends from Westhab, Dawn and Joy, as they enjoy the June 15 lunch. |

Here Linda Fink also enjoys the meal she helped recruit from Lange's Deli, Heathcote Deli and
C-Town. She and Tinka, from their personal funds, provided a pizza lunch for workers earlier in the
week.
Our church also provided parking for volunteers and for the Open House visitors. |
| Linda Blair has been one of the most active volunteers in soliciting help to re-furbish the
house at 2 Drake Road. On the left is her husband, Bill Doescher, a member of our congregation. They
flank another happy member of the re-furbishing team.
Less than a year ago, the house was uninhabitable. It had a leaky roof, water damage to the floors and ceilings and a boiler that was unsafe. Once the Scarsdale Village Hall, the house is owned by Scarsdale Village and leased to Westchester County. Last year the Village invested $36,000 to put in a new roof, heating and electrical system. Westhab, which manages the home, orchestrated the balance of the re-furbishing. |

Janet and Pauline Mottola were among the visitors at the June 15 Open House. They found
the new furniture to be comfortable and appropriate for a family with children. In a few weeks
Westhab will select a formerly homeless family to live at 2 Drake Road. The family will receive
Scarsdale services, and the children will attend Scarsdale schools.
