Covenant of Membership

Worship and Music, Our Rituals

All persons are welcome to join in the life of the Scarsdale Congregational Church. However, many choose to become "covenanted members", publicly agreeing to participate in a journey of faith.

Because a covenant is an agreement between persons, each service of covenanting involves a statement by those first making this covenant and a renewing of the covenant by those who are already covenanted members.

THE COVENANT: We are united in striving to know the will of God as taught in Holy Scripture and as made known to us in our lives. We hold it to be the mission of this church to worship God, to witness to God's love, as we find it in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and to labor for the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human community. Depending, as did those who came before us upon the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit, we rejoice in the promise of God to redeem the world, and to bring us all into a gracious relationship with God, with each other, and with creation itself.

THE GREETING BY COVENANTED MEMBERS: We, then, the members of this church, welcome you with joy into our communion and fellowship. We pledge to you our understanding, our help, and our prayers, that you may evermore increase in the knowledge and love of God. God grant that loving and being loved, blessing and being blessed, serving and being served, we may be prepared while we dwell together on earth for the perfect fellowship of the life everlasting.
