Senior Minister:  Larry R. Kalajainen


lkalajainenDr. Larry R. Kalajainen was called by the congregation to be our senior minister beginning July 1, 2009.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh and holds a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in the New Testament and Early Christianity from Drew University.  He has been an active and ordained minister for over 35 years.  Prior to coming to Scarsdale Congregational Church, Larry served as senior minister of  the First Parish Church in Brunswick, Maine and the American Church in Paris, one of the oldest and largest international congregations in the world.  He also has served churches in New Jersey, and as mission pastor of a Chinese congregation in Malaysia.  Rev. Kalajainen is an author of four books on Christian faith and journeys. He is married to Carol and has two adult daughters and one grandson.  Click here to read some of his recent sermons. Associate Minister: Frances Wise Grenley

sccdirectory1Reverend Frances Wise Grenley holds a B.A. from Vassar College, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and an M.S.W. from Columbia University School of Social Work. She also studied at Union Theological Seminary in preparation for her call to ordained ministry. Fran has considerable experience in the field of clinical social work, both locally and internationally, and has been active in a number of community service organizations. After years of service as a lay minister for both the Scarsdale Congregational Church and Grace Memorial Chapel on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Fran was ordained by the UCC Metropolitan Association on December 10, 2006. Fran lives in Scarsdale with her husband Neal Grenley and has three daughters.

Music Director and Organist: Brett Terry

brett terryBrett Terry was raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  After demonstrating talent on the piano at an early age, he started learning the organ while in middle school, and by the time Brett was fifteen he was working professionally as an organist at local churches.  He graduated summa cum laude from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and is now beginning his master's degree studies at the prestigious Institute of Sacred Music at Yale.

Minister of Christian Education & Families: Rachel F. Small


aboutus36Reverend Rachel Small was called to be our Minister of Christian Education & Families on September 27, 2009.  She holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Prior to coming to the Scarsdale Congregational Church , Rachel worked for a shelter for homeless families in Atlanta and served as a missionary to homeless women in Seattle.
