In 1961 the Scarsdale Congregational Church joined the United Church of Christ (UCC), a newly formed denomination that arose from a merger of the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed Churches. Churches of the United Church of Christ support each other informally as well as within the structure of the denomination. The Metropolitan Association is our regional organization within the UCC. Members of our congregation are appointed to attend the biannual meetings of the Metropolitan Association.
There are 5,600 churches and 1.2 million members in the UCC. As the UCC website says,
We are people of God's extravagant welcome, who listen for the Stillspeaking God and insist that "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we."For much more about the United Church of Christ, visit these UCC sites:
Our faith is 2,000 years old, but our thinking is not. We speak in contemporary ways, because we affirm the responsibility of the church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God.
