Scarsdale Congregational ChurchConfirmation ClassEducation, 2002-2003 Curriculum |
Confirmation Class is a one year program for eighth graders taught by the Ministers. Through discussions, Bible study and special events, students have the opportunity to focus their religious beliefs while gaining a wider view of the role of religion in our culture. (These pictures were taken at a class in January 2003.) Here is the curriculum and requirements for the 2002-2003 class. In past years the class attended services in other houses
of worship, visited a funeral
home, undertook service projects, explored the history of Judaism,
Catholicism,
the Reformation and Protestantism, and the United Church of Christ. As
interest arose, it also touched on Islam and eastern religions as well.
Members
also helped with the life of the church such as helping with the Family
Fair, Family Christmas Service, Maundy Thursday, and Family Easter
Service. Classes are Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 PM and begin with a light supper provided by a member of the class. Members are expected to attend every class in addition to attending 12 Sunday worship services during the year. Those who choose to become members at the completion of
Confirmation
Class covenant with the
church and are
welcomed into membership at a Sunday morning worship service created by
them and their
classmates. Please call Phil
Washburn at 914-723-2111 or contact him
by e-mail if you would like to discuss and/or enroll in
Confirmation. |
