Rev. Frances Wise Grenley brings to her ministry thoughtful and engaging worship and a deep commitment to pastoral care, community outreach and interfaith dialogue.

Rev. Wise Grenley is a graduate of Vassar College, Harvard Divinity School and the Columbia University School of Social Work. After practicing for many years as a clinical social worker, she did post-graduate work at Union Theological Seminary in preparation for her call to ordained ministry by the United Church of Christ in 2006. She served as Associate Minister from 2004 to 2012, when she was called to be Senior Minister. She is the first woman to hold this position at The Scarsdale Congregational Church, which she assumed on July 1, 2013.

In addition to her responsibilities for worship and pastoral care, Rev. Wise Grenley has undertaken an active role in supporting and expanding the outreach programs of the church. During her tenure, she has instituted a number of service initiatives, including an All-Church Day of Service, an annual Midnight Run, a spring service trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, a community-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive, and cooperative projects with the Mount Vernon Heights Congregational Church. She represented SCC as a founding member of the Scarsdale United Interfaith Food Bank and also founded the SCC Youth Action Committee, a service-oriented group for high school teenagers. She is committed to interfaith dialogue and currently leads the Scarsdale-Hartsdale Clergy Association. Rev. Wise Grenley and her husband Neal have three grown daughters and two grandchildren.

Joya Colon-Berezin feels very fortunate to have found her way to the SCC congregation. Most recently she served in ministry at Middleton Community Church UCC as Director of Christian Education (Middleton, WI) and at Bethel Bethany UCC as a Ministry Associate (Milwaukee, WI). Originally, Joya hails from New York City. She is a graduate of Oberlin College (2002) and New York Theological Seminary (2012). She has a background in faith-based community organizing, and worked for the United Methodist Church (UMCOR) and Church World Service as Ecumenical Relations Coordinator for the Immigration and Refugee Program. Joya completed her ordination process at The Riverside Church in NYC and has been authorized for ordination, pending an ordainable call, by the Metro Association of the New York Conference of the United Church of Christ. In recent years, Joya has become an avid tennis player, and fan. She and her wife Charisa Kiyo Smith, who just began as a Visiting Professor at CUNY School of Law, have recently settled in White Plains, NY. (After signing a lease sight unseen, they are quite relieved the apartment turned out to be lovely!)

Lay Leadership

As Congregationalists we govern ourselves. We call our clergy, set our own budget and determine all major issues affecting our corporate life. In essence, we bear the responsibility for ourselves as a Church.
