Scarsdale Congregational Church

Greeting is a wonderful opportunity to meet members of the congregation as well as greet newcomers. You will often be the first person they meet. We want them to know that we are, indeed, a friendly Church. Theses guidelines, prepared by the Membership Committee, will help you feel comfortable in this role. Thank you for volunteering for this important work.

Please be at your post by the door at least 20 minutes before the start of the service.

Wear a boutonniere and name tag, located in a drawer in the-closet.

Make sure the Guest Book is on its stand with a pen along with the latest Bulletin and the Brochure.

Welcome each person warmly as they arrive and introduce yourself.

• If they appear to be new, ask them to sign the Guest Book and include their address and phone number.
• Offer to give them a copy of the Bulletin and the Brochure.
• Encourage them to come for coffee after the service. Offer to take them.

After the processional, you may be seated.

At the end of the service, please return to the narthex. Look for visitors and welcome them again.

• Ask visitors to sign the Guest Book if they have not done so already.
• Again, offer to take them to the Coffee Hour. Engage them in conversation and try to find out some of their interests and introduce them to someone with like interests.

If you are not accompanying anyone to Coffee Hour, remove the Attendance Sheets from the Sign-in Pads, but welcoming visitors is a priority. The ushers can help collect the Attendance Sheets.

• Place the Sign-in Pads at the center-aisle end of each pew. You may have to look for the Pads in with the hymnals or on the floor.
• Put the Attendance Sheets in the Sunday Box along with the Guest Book and pen.
• Put your boutonniere back in the drawer.
