Easter 2000 Offering

Our Governance

Our beautiful church lawn This invitation to give is drawn from an April 11, 2000 letter signed by Nan Berke (Chair of Resources), Pauline Mottola (Chair of Outreach) and Phil Washburn (Senior Minister).

Dear Friends,

Easter calls each of us to live hopefully, confident that the power of God's love ultimately triumphs over the cross... over all our crosses. To "faith" this is to trust a mystery, a mystery for which there is, admittedly, not a whole lot of empirical evidence. But as St. Paul put it: "Hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? We hope for what we do not see."

But now the even more astonishing call of Easter is that we are not to sit around waiting for hope to happen someday in the future. We are called to make hope real in the present, to live the triumph of the resurrection! The mystery here it that when we act on this faith, God becomes part of the action.

Computer in the Children's Library

To reflect the meaning of the Easter season, this year's Easter offering will be shared equally between special Chrlstian Outreach and Church Operations projects. The Outreach portion will be earmarked for programs or projects that allow people to properly utilize the Earth's natural resources (of which we are reminded by the beautiful grounds of our church, pictured here.)

Operations will use part of its proceeds to cover the cost of upgrading the computer (pictured here) in the Children's Library so that our students, young and old, can experience the engaging new Biblical software that offers all of us a new way to learn our Christian traditions and the experience of faith.

Your Easter offering envelope may be placed in the offering at any Sunday service or be sent to the church office by mail. We look forward to seeing you on Easter morning, either at the 9:30 Family Service or at the traditional service at 11 o'clock. Invite a friend to share in the proclamation of our Easter hope.
