Making a Gift of Stock
|
If you choose to give securities to the Church, you will
benefit SCC as
well as your tax situation. This is because most taxpayers are able to
deduct the full market value of donated shares without having to pay
capital gains tax. For questions about the potential tax advantages of
donating appreciated securities, please consult your accountant or tax
advisor.
If securities are held by your broker, you can do a
broker-to-broker transfer of shares simply by:
- Instructing your broker to send the shares you designate to
DTC# 418 to credit account #39A00891-13 (Scarsdale
Congregational Church) at Salomon Smith Barney. (Please note these are
new instructions from in the past).
- Indicating your gift on your pledge card or written note,
and alerting Marjorie Bee (914-723-2111) in the Church finance
office when you have made your gift. Please be as specific as possible
about which shares will be donated, and where
you want us to apply the funds.
- Calling our own John Beyersdorf at Salomon Smith Barney
(212-492-6930) and alerting of your donation.
If you hold the stock certificate:
- If stock certificates are in your name, you will need: (1)
the stock certificate(s), (2) a letter from you formally
donating the stock to the Church with an explanation of how the funds
are to be allocated, and (3) an irrevocable
stock/bond power transferring the stock to The Scarsdale Congregational
Church;
- If stock certificates are in the Church's name, you will
need the first two items listed in the previous paragraph.
