SHORE and Meal Preparation for the Open Arms Shelter
Founded in 1985, SHORE (Sheltering the Homeless is Our Responsibility) is an all-volunteer, interfaith, not-for-profit organization of individuals, churches, temples, businesses and civic groups in central Westchester who work to provide permanent housing. Together with Grace Episcopal Church in White Plains, SHORE founded the Open Arms Shelter for homeless men, which provides 24-hour-a-day services of shelter, meals, psychiatric and substance-abuse counseling, job and housing referral, and educational activities. Once every other month a team from the SCC prepares and serves a hot meal for 30 to 60 persons served by the shelter. More volunteer cooks are welcome! For more information, click here and here.
