Education & Faith Formation

The Scarsdale Congregational Church offers ongoing formation, education, and restorative programs for children/youth/adults. These ministries inform our spiritual identity, shape our self-understanding, and strengthen our community. New or long term member, confident or questioning —there’s always a place for you!

Children’s Faith Formation

We believe that children are an integral part of our multi-generational church community. Our Church School seeks to provide an accepting and supportive environment where children feel empowered to explore, develop, and practice their faith. Through age-appropriate Bible study, involvement in worship and music, service opportunities, and fun activities, we strive to help children cultivate a meaningful and engaged spiritual identity. Each year certain Sundays are designated as “love-in-action” days where we focus on what it means to practice our faith. Through our love-in-action days we have addressed issues like food insecurity, animal rescue, refugees, bullying, affordable housing, building the beloved community, and the climate crisis.

Our Church School is taught by an amazing group of committed and gifted volunteers. Follow these links for more information including our church school brochure and registration form.

Youth Faith Formation

Youth Action Committee (YAC)

YAC is a youth-led group made up of students grades 8-12 that meets every other Sunday afternoon from September through June. YAC’s stated mission is to “have fun” and “help people.” YAC projects focus on serving the local community through an annual ‘Sunbucks Café’ fundraiser and various service projects throughout the year. We also make sure to set aside time each year for some type of fun group retreat.

Youth Confirmation

Confirmation Class is a one-year program (meeting weekly from October-May) for 8th and 9th graders, led by clergy. Through discussions, bible study and special events, students have the opportunity to focus their personal religious beliefs while gaining a wider view of religion in our culture. Confirmands support the life of the community during worship and fellowship activities, undertake service projects, and explore various major world religions. Those who choose to become Confirmed, at the completion of the year, are welcomed into membership at a Sunday morning worship service designed by the Confirmands themselves.

Adult Education, Formation, Restoration

We provide a number of ongoing, and short-term, opportunities for adults to grow in faith. These events are also a wonderful way to make new friends within the church community. Opportunities include small group sessions on topics like: prayer team, ‘Meditation, Contemplation, and Seeking,’ impromptu “Book Clubs,” spiritual retreats, and focused Bible study. They also include events like forums on pressing social issues. Check the upcoming events calendar to learn what’s on the horizon.
