Justice Outreach

We view social justice ministry as an extension of our faith. We also view it as one manifestation of the coming “Kindom of God”. As agents of God’s justice, healing, and love we seek to transform individuals, communities, and systems of racial, economic, social, and environmental oppression.

Here are just a few of our ongoing social justice initiatives:

SCC Racial Justice Group

As the movement for racial justice continues to grow and evolve among people of faith, a core group of SCC members have re-committed themselves to this ministry. They met regularly to do the work of building the ‘beloved community’ addressing both issues of systemic and internalized racism, and seeking both personal and social transformation. For information contact Reverend Kelly, kelly@scc-ucc.org

Spiritual Alliance of Communities for Reproductive Dignity (SACReD)

SACReD is an alliance of organizers, religious leaders, academics, and congregations working together to advance the cause of reproductive justice through congregational designation and community building programs. SCC is actively involved with area temples and churches to learn and advocate for women’s reproductive justice. Contact Reverend Kelly to join, kelly@scc-ucc.org

New York State Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival

This revival of Martin Luther King’s 1963 Poor People’s Campaign is a national movement to end poverty, systemic racism, environmental degradation, and excessive militarism. We work closely with the NY State Campaign and the Hudson Valley Region to raise awareness about the many social justice issues facing our community and hold elected leaders accountable to address them. Reclaim Our Vote!

Through Reclaim our Vote, SCC has written thousands of eye catching and inclusive postcards with the goal of increasing Black voter turnout. The postcards have carefully crafted messages that provide important election information and describe key issues at stake while emphasizing the importance of each voter’s voice. To join this effort, contact Reverend Joya, joya@scc-ucc.org

We Stand Against Gun Violence

SCC stands firmly against gun violence! A beloved, deceased SCC member, Pat Colella was deeply committed to this work and in October 2015, founded The Interfaith Coalition Against Gun Violence (ICAGV). She was also a leader in the NY Chapter of Mom's Demand Action for Gun Violence in America.

Every December, since 2015 when Pat initiated the Coalition with our clergy, SCC has gathered with our community, local faith communities and clergy, and members of Westchester Moms Demand Action for a vigil to honor the victims and survivors of gun violence. A number of SCC congregants are volunteers with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people against gun violence. If you are interested in this form of outreach you can talk to Katherine Schowalter Lesch and/ or join Moms Demand Action here or text READY to 64433.
